After Words
Terms of Service
Last updated 9 September 2026
These terms govern your use of the After Words app and website. By creating an account you agree to them. If you do not agree, please do not use the service.
Please read section 7 carefullyAfter Words is not a will, and it is not a legal instrument. We cannot guarantee that a letter will be delivered. Do not use it as the only way to pass on anything that matters legally or financially.
1. What After Words does
After Words stores letters you write and attempts to send them by email to recipients you name, when a trigger you chose occurs. The available triggers are a scheduled date, a period of inactivity on your account, or confirmation by the trusted verifiers you nominated.
2. Eligibility
You must be at least 16 years old and able to enter a binding agreement. One person, one account.
3. Your account
You are responsible for your password and for everything done through your account. Tell us promptly at support@wordsafter.org if you believe someone else has access to it. We may suspend or close accounts that we reasonably believe are being used unlawfully or abusively.
4. Your content
Your letters remain yours. You grant us only the permission we need to store them and to transmit them to the recipients you name — nothing more. We do not read your letters except where strictly necessary to operate the service, to comply with the law, or to investigate abuse.
5. Acceptable use
Do not use After Words to send threats, harassment, or anything unlawful; to impersonate another person; to distribute malware; or to send bulk or commercial email. Only enter another person's contact details where you reasonably believe they would expect to hear from you.
6. Free accounts, ads and Premium
After Words is free to use. A free account may keep a limited number of letters at a time; the current limit is shown in the app when you reach it. Deleting a letter frees a slot. You may also choose to watch a short video advertisement in exchange for writing one additional letter, up to a capped number.
The free version shows advertising. Ads never appear while you are reading or writing a letter. A Premium subscription removes all advertising and lifts the limit on how many letters you may keep.
Premium is sold through the App Store and billed by Apple to your Apple Account. It renews automatically for the same period unless you cancel at least 24 hours before the current period ends. Manage or cancel it in your App Store account settings; cancelling takes effect at the end of the paid period. We do not process payments and cannot issue refunds — refund requests go to Apple.
Features described as "soon" in the app are planned, not promised. Do not subscribe on the expectation of a feature that has not shipped; what you are paying for today is the removal of ads and the higher letter limit.
7. Delivery is not guaranteed
This is the most important thing on this page. Delivery depends on systems we do not control — email providers, spam filters, network availability, correct addresses, and in some cases actions by the verifiers you nominated. A letter may be delayed, filtered into a spam folder, delivered to the wrong person if you entered the wrong address, or never delivered at all.
After Words is a keepsake, not a legal mechanism. It is not a will, a testament, a power of attorney, or any other legally binding instrument, and nothing delivered through it has legal effect. Do not use it as the sole means of passing on instructions, credentials, financial information, or anything else where failure would cause harm. For anything of legal or financial consequence, speak to a qualified professional and use a proper legal document.
8. Verifiers
Verifiers are people you nominate to confirm that you have died. They are not our agents and hold no legal authority. Nomination and confirmation happen inside the app, and a confirmation may cause your letters to be sent. Choose people you trust, and tell them you have chosen them. We are not responsible for a verifier acting incorrectly, prematurely, or not at all.
9. Availability and changes
We may change, suspend or discontinue any part of the service. We will make reasonable efforts to warn you before a change that would prevent your letters from being delivered, so that you can export or make other arrangements. We do not promise uninterrupted or error-free operation.
10. Ending your use
You may delete your account at any time in Settings. Deletion destroys your undelivered letters permanently. If we close your account for a breach of these terms, the same applies.
11. No warranty
The service is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, including any implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, or non-infringement.
12. Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, After Words is not liable for indirect, incidental, special or consequential losses, nor for loss of data, profit, or opportunity, arising from your use of the service — including any failure, delay or error in delivering a letter. Nothing in these terms excludes liability that cannot lawfully be excluded.
13. Changes to these terms
If we change these terms we will update the date above and, for significant changes, tell you in the app or by email. Continuing to use the service after a change means you accept the revised terms.
14. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the Republic of Uzbekistan, and the courts of Uzbekistan have exclusive jurisdiction, except where mandatory consumer law in your country of residence gives you the right to bring proceedings locally.
